What Is It?

The electronic cigarette is a battery powered implement that provides varying doses of nicotine which is inhaled. Besides getting the nicotine delivery, the vaporized nicotine solution provides flavor and the sensation that you are inhaling smoke. There is no smoke or combustion involved with electronic cigarettes. It is a safer alternative to cigarettes, cigars, and pipes. There is no tar or other carcinogenic poisons involved with the electronic cigarette. The e cigarette is elongated in its form, often looking like a cigarette or cigar. Most are reusable with replaceable and refillable parts.

How Does It Work?

There are two model types:
Automatic: As you inhale through the cigarette, airflow is detected by the sensor. The sensor turns on the heating element which vaporizes the nicotine solution stored in the mouth piece.
Manual: You must depress a button to activate the heating element. The heating element in turn vaporizes the nicotine solution.
Most models come equipped with an LED on the opposite end. It, too is activated during inhalation. It serves as an indicator of use. An electronic cigarette comes with different components: Mouthpiece, heating element, and battery.

A pharmacist named Hon Lik from China invented the electronic cigarette after his father died of lung cancer.

If this is your first time purchasing e cigarettes, it is recommended you buy e cigarette starter kits. Starter kits usually come with a charger, battery, atomizer, and cartridges. Prices vary depending on the size of the kit.
